ESS Utumishi – Employee Self Service (Watumishi Portal)

ESS Utumishi is a digital platform introduced by the “President’s Office Public Service Management and Good Governance of the United Republic of Tanzania”. It is also known as Watumishi Portal. It enables the public servants of Tanzania to access essential job-related services from their homes, including submitting online requests for leave, updating personal information, and downloading payslips.

What is ESS Utumishi?

It is an Employee Self-Service Portal that helps the public servants of Tanzania to access their pay slips, and their data related to their employment. Further, it allows you to access the different services, including applying for a leave and updating personal information.

The ESS Utumishi is a digital alternative to paperwork. It offers five benefits to public servants such as:

1. Update Personal Data

You can quickly check your employment personal information by logging into your ESS account. If you need to update any details, you can do it from home without visiting the administrative offices.

2. Online Request for Leave

It reduces the need for time off requests. You can easily request the leave through your account. Once you request the leave, it alerts the employers to accept or reject your request.  

3. Easy Access to Payslips

The main advantage of Watumishi portal is that you can easily download your monthly payslips without going anywhere. Besides, you can also access your payment history.

4. Convenient and Secure

You can easily access essential services and update your details anytime without waiting in long lines at administrative offices. It keeps your data secure from unauthorized access.

What Do You Require to Register on the ESS Utumishi Portal?

Before starting the registration process, you must have the following:

  • Check Number
  • National ID
  • Email Address

These details ensure that only authorized public servants can register on the Portal. 

Step-by-Step Process to Register on Watumishi

A new user needs to register on the ESS Utumishi Portal (Watumishi) to access their information and valuable services. Here is a simple process to complete ESS registration form:

Step 1: Visit Watumishi Portal

Firstly, go to the ESS Utumishi Portal by clicking this link: https://ess.utumishi.go.tz/sessions/signin. After clicking this link, the Portal will open. 

Step 2: Go to the Registration Section

Now, you will see a “Click here to Register” button at the bottom of the login form. Click this button to start the registration process. After clicking, the ESS registration form will display on your screen.

Step 3: Enter the Personal Details

Now, you have to enter these details in the form:

  • Check Number: You have to enter your unique Check Number in the first section. The employer provides you this number.
  • National ID: In the next section, enter your National ID.
  • Email Address: Now, enter your valid email address in the next section. You will receive all the notifications at this email address. Further, it will help in password recovery.
  • Email Confirmation: In the last section, re-enter your valid email address. This step ensures that your provided email address is correct.

Step 4: Activate Your Account

Now, recheck your provided information to make sure that you provided the correct details. After ensuring, activate your account by clicking the “Sign Up” button. You will receive an email along with your portal password.

Complete Process to Login to the ESS Utumishi Portal

After registration, you can easily log in to the Portal by following the below steps:

Step 1: Go to the Utumishi Portal

Firstly, click this link: https://ess.utumishi.go.tz/sessions/signin. This link will direct you toward the ESS Portal. 

Step 2: Enter Username and Password

Now, a new page will display on your screen. You have to enter your Username (it is your check number) in the upper section and your password in the lower section. 

Step 3: Log in to Your Account

After entering the required information, click on the “Login” button. In this way, you will be able to log in to your account.

It’s important to keep your username and password confidential to keep your account secure.

What to Do If You Forget Your Password?

Have you forgotten your ESS account password? Don’t worry! You can easily reset your password in few steps:

Step 1: Visit the ESS Portal

Go to the Portal by clicking this link: https://ess.utumishi.go.tz/sessions/signin. Now, a login page will display on your screen.

Step 2: Click “Reset Password?”

You will see a “Reset Password” button on the lower side of your page. This button will direct you to the password recovery page.

Step 3: Enter the Check No and Email Address

Now, you have to enter your Check Number in the upper section of the page and the email address in the next input section. Please note you must provide the email address you used for the registration.

Step 4: Reset Your Password

After entering the information, click on the “Reset Password”. You will receive an email containing a link at your email address.

Step 5: Create a Password

Open the email and click on the link to reset your password. Now, you have to set a new password for your account. Please keep your password safe to avoid unauthorized access.

Finally! You can easily log in to your account by using this new password.

Note: You should choose a strong password containing a mix of symbols, characters, and numbers.

Performance Evaluation Module (PEPMIS)

It is an evaluation tool within the ESS. It allows the employees and employers to work together by setting the tasks. It also manages and updates the data of the employee. You can easily set your Supervisor on PEPMIS by entering his name in the “Set Supervisor” button.

Alerts in PEPMIS

EMS Utumishi will send an alert when your Supervisor assigns you a task. There are 3 kinds of alerts.

  • Green Alert: This alert notifies you that you have sufficient time to work on a task and submit it to your Supervisor.
  • Yellow Alert: This alert indicates that you have limited time to complete your task and submit it to your Supervisor.
  • Red Alert: It indicates that the deadline is approaching quickly and you must complete your task immediately.
